M25 Rickmansworth crash sees two dogs killed as elderly woman left with ‘life-changing’ injuries

A woman in her 60s was airlifted to hospital with "life-changing" injuries and two dogs were killed after a "serious" collision on the M25 near Rickmansworth. The incident occurred at around 2pm on Sunday, July 2 on the M25[1]'s anti-clockwise carriageway between junction 16 and 17 heading towards Heathrow.

It is alleged that a white HGV lorry and a silver Volkswagen Passat Sport were involved in a collision near Rickmansworth[2]. Lane closures were put in place by Herts Police while the emergency services attended the scene, and the road was re-opened by 8pm.

The driver of the Volkswagen - a woman in her 60s - was airlifted to hospital with "life-changing" injuries. The Volkswagen was also carrying four dogs and two of which sadly died, and the remaining two were taken to the vets for further treatment.

A 25-year-old man from Luton was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. However, he has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Herts Police[4] is appealing for witnesses, information and dash cam footage after the serious collision on the M25 near Rickmansworth. Detective Sergeant Ben Heath, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our enquiries are continuing as we look to establish the full circumstances of this collision, and we are appealing for anyone with information to please get in touch.

“Were you driving in the area at the time and saw what happened? Additionally, if you have a dash cam fitted, please check it as you may have recorded some crucial footage that may assist our investigation.”
