M5 and M4 traffic live: Caravan fire add to motorway chaos after incidents bring motorists to standstill

A number of incidents on motorways in the region brought traffic to a standstill on Friday (July 7). The M5 in Gloucestershire, Bristol and Somerset and the M4 in Wiltshire have all been affected.

It comes as traffic making a getaway for the weekend hits the regions roads ahead of the weekend. Temperatures are set to reach the high 20s today[1] before thunderstorms on Saturday.

A caravan fire and holiday traffic is causing long delays southbound on the M5 between Portishead (junction 19) and Clevedon (junction 20) with congestion to junction 17 for Cribbs Causeway. The M5 incident in Gloucestershire was southbound at junction 11a for Gloucester and saw all lanes closed. They have since reopened.

The Somerset incident was northbound between junction 26 for Wellington and junction 25 for Taunton. The M4 incident was in both directions between junction 15 for Swindon East and Junction 14 for Hungerford.

The latest on these incidents and other regional traffic news will be in the blog below.
