Man fatally struck by N.J. Transit train, officials say
Service was suspended on the Morris & Essex Line after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a New Jersey Transit train Monday afternoon, the agency said.
The victim, a man, was hit by train 854 on the Morris & Essex Line near the Summit Station at about 1:20 p.m., according to Kyalo Mulumba, senior public information officer for NJ Transit.
The train departed Hackettstown at 11:58 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 2 p.m.
No injuries were reported among the train crew or the 45 riders who were on board, Mulumba said.
Service on the line remained suspended Monday afternoon while the New Jersey Transit Police are on the scene investigating the incident. NJ Transit was cross-honoring rail tickets to be used on bus routes and special bus service is available between Summit and Madison stations.
Service on the Gladstone Branch, which stops at Summit station, has since resumed.
