Man Tasered after ‘van full of stolen fuel crashed following police chase’

A driver was Tasered after he fled from a ‘stolen’ van that crashed following a police chase. The Ford Transit was full of ‘stolen fuel’ that was believed to have been swiped during a ‘recent bilking spree’ across the Midlands.

Officers spotted the vehicle leaving Lichfield on Sunday, July 23, and said it failed to stop in the Walsall area. There was a “short pursuit before it crashed into ‘an innocent member of the public”, cops said.

Two people were arrested following the incident. One man, said to be the driver, was Tasered after being chased through gardens, while another man was found hiding in a property close by.

A dramatic photo from the scene shows one of the van’s wheels had been ripped off as a result of the crash and the bonnet was crumpled. An intermediate bulk container can be seen on a snap showing the inside of the vehicle.

Staffordshire Police Roads Policing Unit tweeted: “We saw this stolen Ford Transit leaving Lichfield yesterday before it failed to stop in Brownhills. Short pursuit before it crashed into an innocent member of the public.

“We chased the driver on foot over gardens before he was Tasered and arrested. The second male was found close by hiding in a property and was also arrested for numerous offences.

“The vehicle had a large IBC in the back which was full of stolen fuel after a recent bilking spree across the region. Thank you to the public for their assistance and also a huge thanks to the response teams, Brownhills Police and West Midlands Police[2] Dog Unit for helping at the scene.”
