Multi-county car chase one of nearly 25 cases of auto thefts, attempted thefts: Euclid Police Blotter

EUCLID, Ohio – Here is the police blotter for the Euclid Police Department for July 3 through July 9.
POLICE CHASE AND ARREST: East 276th Street
On July 6, officers began pursuing a vehicle on East 276th St. that they determined was stolen. The chase progressed through parts of three communities in two counties before ending in a three-car crash.
The stolen car, a Kia, was seen parked in a parking lot on East 276th St. A cruiser pulled up to try to block the vehicle, but the driver of the stolen vehicle rammed the cruiser and drove off.
Police pursued, following the car into Lake County. Wickliffe and Willoughby police assisted. Eventually the Kia failed to stop at an intersection at SOM Center Road in Willoughby and collided with two other vehicles.
All three cars were disabled. Drivers from the other two vehicles were treated by paramedics at the scene.
Police chased three male suspects – two teens and one adult – on foot and eventually caught all three. They were transported back to Cuyahoga County to the Euclid Police Department for criminal charges.
The chase was one of nearly 25 cases that involved vehicles that were either stolen or damaged in attempted thefts during the week.
Several of the cases involved vehicles made by Kia or Hyundai – two brands that have been popular theft targets because many lack security equipment[1] that makes them more difficult to steal.
In about half a dozen cases, the police recovered stolen vehicles.
FATAL ACCIDENT: Chardon Road at Euclid Avenue
On July 3, an occupant in a car traveling at a high rate of speed was killed when the car went off the road at the intersection of Chardon Road and Euclid Avenue and crashed.
FELONIOUS ASSAULT: East 200th Street
On July 3, an officer responded to a business on East 200th Street after a report of a man being shot and lying on the ground. The officer found the man and rendered first aid.
A woman who called police told the dispatcher that she had shot the man at her residence. Officers located the woman, and the man’s car.
The man was taken to University Hospitals for treatment without incident. Statements, evidence and photographs were taken on scene.
VEHICLE GRAND THEFT: Lakeshore Boulevard
On July 3, a woman reported that her car was stolen from the parking lot of an apartment complex. The car was later found damaged in Cleveland and towed.
CRIMINAL DAMAGING: Babbitt Road
On July 4, unknown suspects tried to steal a car from a business parking lot. A passenger window was broken, and the steering column was damaged.
Police took swabs of blood found around the car’s broken ignition.

Police responded to a business after a woman called to say her car was broken into. Police observed a back window was broken and the steering column was peeled. Police obtained video footage of the incident.

On July 4, police were called after unknown suspects tried to steal a car in a parking lot. Police observed the passenger rear window was broken and the steering column peeled.
THEFT AND FRAUD: Lakeshore Boulevard
On July 4, a woman reported to police on that someone had gotten into her car, stole her purse and then attempted to use her credit cards.
VEHICLE GRAND THEFT: Euclid Avenue
On July 4, a man called police to report his car was stolen from a parking lot on Euclid Avenue. Cleveland police reported on July 6 to Euclid police that the car was found. The rear passenger window was broken, and the ignition was damaged.
CRIMINAL DAMAGING: Glenbrook Boulevard
On July 4, a woman reported to police that her car had been damaged in an apparent attempted theft. The rear door on the driver’s side of the vehicle and the steering column were damaged.
ARMED ROBBERY: Brush Avenue
On July 5, officers responded to a call from a man who said he was robbed at gunpoint. Several items were taken from him. Two suspects then fled on foot.
ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFT: Tungsten Road
On July 5, an unknown suspect used a pry tool to break the rear passenger window of an automobile in an attempted car theft. The suspect fled without the vehicle. Police responded, took photos and forwarded the case to detectives.
ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFT: East 260th Street
On July 5, a woman reported an attempted car theft. The rear passenger window on her car was broken, and the steering column of her vehicle damaged.
GUNSHOTS: Carol Avenue
On July 5, a witness told police that a 15-year-old had fired two shots into a vehicle. One shell casing was recovered. The witnesses refused to complete statements. The report was forwarded to the detective bureau.
ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFT: Lakeshore Boulevard
On July 5, a man reported his car was broken into, and an unknown person attempted to steal it.
STOLEN VEHICLES RECOVERED: Roseland Avenue and East 191st Street
On July 6, security at an apartment complex reported that two vehicles were found left in parking lots with their headlights on. Police confirmed one was stolen from Willoughby Hills, and the other was stolen from Brunswick.
VEHICLE GRAND THEFT: Lakeshore Boulevard
On July 6, a man reported his car was stolen overnight from his apartment complex on Lakeshore Boulevard. The car later was recovered on a nearby street.
VEHICLE GRAND THEFT, VEHICLES DAMAGED: Lakeshore Boulevard
On July 6, police responded to a call about a vehicle stolen from Lakeshore Boulevard. While handling the call, the officer learned several other vehicles in the same block had been damaged in failed theft attempts.
ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFT: Lakeshore Boulevard
Police did locate one vehicle that was broken into, and the steering column was peeled.ut half a dozen male juveniles were breaking into vehicles. When police arrived, they saw two of the males that fit the description. When they spotted the marked cruisers, they ran. Police were unable to locate them.

VEHICLE GRAND THEFT: Lakeshore Boulevard
On July 8, a woman reported that her car was stolen overnight from a parking lot on Lakeshore Boulevard. The car was taken without keys, the woman said. Officers toured the area looking for the vehicle without success.
VEHICLE GRAND THEFT: Lakeshore Boulevard
On July 8, police were called to an apartment complex to investigate a complaint about a vehicle stolen sometime during the day.
VEHICLE GRAND THEFT: East 260th Street
On July 8, police were called to a church parking lot after a vehicle was stolen while the owner was inside the church during the afternoon.
DRUG TRAFFICKING: Euclid Avenue
On July 8, officers with the community response unit stopped a vehicle for equipment violations. While speaking with the driver, they detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the car found multiple packages of marijuana, which were siezed.
SHOTS FIRED: Briardale Avenue
On July 8, police were called after gunshots were heard on Briardale Avenue. The responding officers observed a vehicle with its back window shot out. Multiple spent bullet casings were found in the driveway and in the street. The vehicle was towed, and the spent casings were collected for evidence.
AGGRAVATED ROBBERY: Lakeshore Boulevard
On July 9, police responded to a call and spoke to witnesses at a business where two men had entered the store with handguns and demanded money. The unknown suspects demanded the manager open the safe, which he did. The manager handed over cash and then the suspects fled.
VEHICLE GRAND THEFT: Lakeshore Boulevard
On July 9, a woman on Lakeshore Boulevard reported that her car was missing from her driveway.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE: Maydale Avenue
On July 9, police responded to a report of criminal damage to an automobile.
