Person airlifted to hospital after lorry and van crash, closing road
A person has been airlifted to hospital after a lorry and van crashed on the A547 in Conwy[1] today. The incident happened between Abergele[2] and Rhuddlan[3] just after 7am.
The stretch of road was closed and motorists were urged to avoid the area[4], while police, fire and ambulance crews worked at the scene, supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. The casualty was flown to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, which has a major trauma centre.
A Welsh Ambulance Service[5] spokesperson said: “We were called today (12 July) shortly after 7:00am to reports of a road traffic collision on Rhuddlan Road, Rhyl. We sent two emergency ambulances, one Cymru high acuity response unit paramedic and a duty operational manager to the scene, where we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. One person was taken by air to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.”
A North Wales Police[7] spokesperson said: “We were called at 7.27am reporting a road traffic collision on the A547 Rhuddlan Road near Borth Crossroads, involving a van and a HGV. Officers attended alongside colleagues from WAST and NWFRS. The road remains closed whilst recovery of the vehicles is undertaken.”
A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service[8] spokesperson said: “We are in attendance at a 2 vehicle RTC on Rhuddlan Rd, Abergele[9] – 2 appliances, called at 7.49hrs – crews helped to remove casualty who is now in care of ambulance.”
