Police appeal after woman in M42 crash near BHX left with ‘life-changing injuries’

Police have appealed for information over a serious M42 crash[1] which left a woman with potentially life-changing injuries. The smash between a lorry and a van happened on the northbound carriageway near Birmingham Airport[2] at around 1.40pm today (July 25).

The crash victim, who was a passenger in the van, was cut free from the wreckage. She was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital[3] for urgent treatment.

The van driver was also taken to the same hospital and treated for non-serious injuries. While the driver the lorry, which was transporting cars, did not require further treatment and was discharged at the scene.

The northbound carriageway, between J6 and J7, is expected to remain closed for several hours tonight. West Midlands Police[5] has launched an investigation into the incident.

Officers are urging witnesses of the crash to contact the force. Det Sgt Paul Hughes of the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “I’m really keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage.

“In particular, I’m trying to identify the driver of a blue articulated HGV curtain side trailer which was in lane 1 just in front of the vehicles involved when the collision occurred. This person could be a key witness.”
