Police recover stolen car, but gun in vehicle remains missing: Euclid Police Blotter

EUCLID, Ohio – Here is the police blotter for the Euclid Police Department for June 26 through July 2.

Vehicle grand theft: Lakeshore Boulevard

Police were called June 26 by a man who said his car was stolen with keys. The man also reported that he had a handgun in the car when the vehicle was taken.

After police cleared the scene of the theft, it was reported that the stolen vehicle was involved in a hit-skip accident at the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Chardon Road.

An unknown suspect, the person driving the car, fled the scene. Police canvassed the area but did not find him.

The owner was called to the scene. He told police the stolen firearm was no longer inside the vehicle.

Vehicle grand theft: Kinnison Avenue

A resident reported seeing someone drive away in his car shortly after 1 a.m. June 26 that had been parked in his driveway. The car was later recovered.

Felonious assault: East 232nd Street at Tracy Avenue

A girl told police that while walking west from East 232nd Street along Tracy Avenue early on June 26 she heard multiple gunshots coming from behind her. The girl fled on foot but noticed later she had suffered a gunshot wound to her right leg.

Criminal damaging: Tungsten Road

Police received a call on June 26 about two vehicles being shot and two residents also being shot. Shell casings were later recovered at scene.

Criminal damaging: East 222nd Street

Police responded to a call on June 26 in which unknown suspects broke out the rear passenger window of a Kia, gained entry to the vehicle and tried to steal it.

Suspicious activity: East 222nd Street

Police responded to a call on June 26 about four suspected stolen vehicles arriving in a parking lot. Unknown suspects from those vehicles then began to try different door handles of other cars in the parking lot. No damage was reported. The suspects fled before the police arrived.

Vehicle grand theft: Babbitt Road

Police received a call June 26 about a vehicle stolen from a parking lot without keys. The car was later located on Holton Avenue in Cleveland, but it was unoccupied.

Burglary: East 220th Street

Police responded on June 26 to a call from person who saw a man entering a neighboring home through a window. The caller told police the home had been vacant for some time.

Vehicle grand theft: Georgetown Square

Police received a report June 26 about a car being stolen by unknown people.

Criminal damaging: East 222nd Street

Officers responded June 26 to East 222nd for a woman who had her car window broken out.

Weapon offense: Tungsten Road

A man reportedly approached a woman June 26 and pointed a gun at her. The man was described as heavyset, in his 30s, approximately 6 foot-1 and wearing a dark colored jacket and black or dark blue colored pants.

Harassment: Drakefield Avenue

A woman, the maternal grandmother of a girl, complained to police June 26 that she was being harassed by the girl’s paternal grandmother. The woman complained that the other woman was allowing people to post photos of their granddaughter on Instagram, with captions wishing her a happy birthday.

Vehicle Grand Theft: Babbitt Road

Police responded on June 26 to take the report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was recovered two days later in Cleveland.

Criminal damaging: East 250th Street

A man reported June 26 that he had been in Columbus and when he returned found that his apartment door was damaged.

Aggravated menacing: Tracy Avenue

A woman reported June 26 that her father had threatened her via text message and then stole her firearm.

Vehicle grand theft: East 200th Street

A man reported June 26 that he had parked his car outside a business on East 200th Street and when he returned to retrieve it, it was gone. The stolen vehicle later was located by Lake County Sheriff’s Department.

Vehicle grand theft: East 222nd Street

A man reported he left his car at an auto shop on East 222nd Street in the morning of June 26, but when he returned at 6 p.m., it was gone.

Disorderly conduct: East 191st Street

Police responded to a call on June 26 that two people were lying on the sidewalk in front of a restaurant. The two people were both found to be intoxicated and cited.

Unauthorized vehicle use: Brush Avenue

A man reported June 26 that his ex-girlfriend arranged for his Honda Accord to be relocated during the couple’s breakup.

Weapons complaint: East 214th Street

Police were called June 26 by a man who said he worked for a repossession company and that while he was attempting to repossess a vehicle, an unknown man pointed a gun at him and then drove off in the car.

Menacing: East 191st Street

A woman called police June 27 to complain that a man tried to assault her by swinging an umbrella at her. The man fled after she sprayed him with pepper spray.

Vehicle recovery: Brush Avenue

Police were flagged down by pedestrians on June 27 who reported a car had crashed into a building. Officers could not locate any occupants. The vehicle was towed. The owner later told police his car had been stolen.

Robbery: East 185th Street

An unknown suspect forcefully took money on June 27 from a business on East 18th Street. The suspect also fired a shot at the person in the business.

Breaking and entering: East 222nd Street

Police responded to the Shore Cultural Center on June 27 after getting a call about youths entering the building. After gaining unauthorized access, they discharged a fire extinguisher in a stairwell.

Public disturbance: Euclid Avenue

Police were called on June 27 after a man caused a disturbance at a business. When police responded, they found the man to be heavily intoxicated. He was transported to the hospital and issued a criminal citation.

Receiving stolen property: Euclid Avenue

Police stopped a vehicle on June 28 that was suspected of being stolen and had expired plates. A 13-year-old boy was driving the car. He admitted to the police that he stole the vehicle.

After the juvenile was taken to the station for processing, he became combative and potentially suicidal. Police transported him to a hospital where he was released to their care.

The boy also is a suspect in a breaking and entering incident in Willowick and a hit-skip crash in Eastlake.

Suspicious activity: Euclid Avenue

Officers responded to a call on June 28 about a woman going through cars in a parking lot. Officers spoke with the woman when they spotted her walking down the street away from the parking lot. Police said she seemed confused and did not know what was going on.

Marijuana possession: Tungsten Road

Euclid community response unit officers on active patrol June 28 in the area of East 260th Street and Tungsten Road observed an equipment violation – windows with an illegal tint -- on a motor vehicle. After stopping the car, officers observed burned marijuana cigarettes in plain view. A search of the vehicle turned up a concealed handgun. Additional marijuana was also found. The weapon and narcotics were seized. The driver was cited and released on scene.

Drug sales: Lakeshore Boulevard

Community response unit officers stopped a vehicle on June 28 after observing a hand-to-hand drug transaction. As officers approached the car, they saw narcotics in plain view. A search of the car found a loaded firearm. The driver was found to have two active arrest warrants, was taken into custody and later booked into the Cuyahoga County Jail.

Vehicle grand theft: Gateway Drive

Police were called on June 29 when a car was stolen sometime through the night without keys. Cleveland police later located the stolen car, which was returned to the owner.

Assault: Lakeshore Boulevard

Police were called June 29 to the rear parking lot at an apartment complex on Lakeshore Boulevard for a report that a man was hitting a woman and assaulting her.

The woman was there with two children when police arrived. The man left the area before their arrival. Police requested a warrant for the man’s arrest on numerous charges.

Vehicle grand theft: Effingham Boulevard

A man reported June 29 that his car was stolen from his driveway.

Shots fired: Shore Center Drive

Police responded to a call on June 29 that shots were fired in a parking lot on Shore Center Drive.

Police were unable to locate any shell casings in the area and unable to identify any witnesses.

The manager of a nearby business told police that she did not see the incident, but several people ran into the business and said they had heard gunshots outside. No injuries were reported.

Vehicle grand theft: Lakeshore Boulevard

A man called police on June 30 after discovering his car had been stolen from his parking garage. Cleveland police reported July 1 they had recovered the vehicle. No suspects were found. The steering column in the car had been peeled open and the ignition damaged.

Burglary: Babbitt Road

Officers responded on June 30 to a reported burglary on Babbitt Road.

Weapons offense: Farringdon Avenue

Police responded on June 30 to a call of a weapons offense involving knives and screwdrivers. They took two people into custody.

Drug offense: Lakeshore Boulevard

Community response unit officers initiated a traffic stop on June 30 for a moving violation and an equipment violation. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot.

Drug paraphernalia and was observed in plain view. A search of the vehicle uncovered a firearm. The driver of the vehicle was later identified.

Criminal damaging: Brush Avenue

A woman called police to her apartment building on July 1, reporting that her her ex-husband was throwing rocks at her window.

The woman said the man came to her apartment door stating he wanted to see his child. When the man threw rocks at her window, he broke exterior window glass, the woman told police.

The man fled. Police patrolled the area and did not observe him. A warrant was requested for his arrest.

Felonious assault: Tungsten Road

A woman told police on July 1 that an unknown man fired several shots at her and a group of women gathered in a parking lot. The victim was struck in the left thigh. The man fled in a vehicle, which the women described to police.

Criminal damaging: Miami Road

A man reported on July 1 that a woman threw a rock through his front bedroom window.

Concealed weapons: Highland Drive at Euclid Avenue

Community response unit officers on proactive patrol July 1 stopped a car for a traffic violation (improper turn at an intersection) and equipment violation (improper window tint). During a roadside interview, the driver disclosed he had a concealed handgun. A check of his driver license showed his New York concealed handgun license had been revoked and that he had a drug conviction. Police confiscated the handgun and issued a warning for the traffic violations.

Drug possession: North Lakeland Boulevard at East 260th Street

Community response unit officers stopped a car on July 1 for an equipment violation. Officers smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle when they spoke to the juvenile who was driving the car. The driver admitted to having marijuana. A search uncovered a loaded handgun in his waist band and both raw and burned marijuana in the car.

Criminal damaging: Gateway Drive

Police were called July 2 after several vehicles in a parking lot at an apartment complex were found damaged and there was evidence of entry.

Vehicle grand theft: Lakeshore Boulevard

A car was reported stolen July 2 from a driveway on Lakeshore Boulevard. There was no information about a suspect.

Shoplifting: Lakeshore Boulevard

Officers were called to a pharmacy on Lakeshore Boulevard on July 2. A store employee told police a woman carrying two large bags came into the store, filled her bags with merchandise and then left without paying. The caller told police she had seen the suspect in a nearby parking lot. Police patrolled the area but were unable to locate any person matching the description.

Theft: Brush Avenue

A man reported July 2 that he was making a trade of a computer for a dirt bike. He told the police he showed the computer to the person with whom he was making the trade. That person took possession of the computer and in turn showed him the dirt bike. An unknown man then drove off with the dirt bike.
