Recovery truck driver dies in fatal M42 crash
The driver of a recovery vehicle has died in a crash on the M42 to the south of the Leicestershire border. The 45-year-old man died when his truck collided with a Ford Fiesta in the early hours of Saturday, July 15.
Emergency services were called to the motorway between junctions 9 and 10, south of Measham and near the A5 junction at Tamworth[1] at around 1.40am. The recovery vehicle driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Warwickshire Police attended and closed the road for almost nine hours. Officers arrested a 28-year-old man, from Leicestershire, on suspicion of death by dangerous driving[2].
He has since been released on police bail. Meanwhile, the 45-year-old man's next of kin are being supported by specialist officers while an investigation into the crash continues.
Det Con Ballantyne from Warwickshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We are urging any witnesses who may have seen either vehicle in the lead-up to the collision or seen the collision itself, to please get in touch. We are currently working to establish exactly what happened."
