Teen injured, entrapped as car crashes into ravine: Hunting Valley Police Blotter

HUNTING VALLEY, Ohio

Car crash, squad call: Fairmount Boulevard

Three teenagers were taken to Hillcrest Hospital — one with a serious head injury — after their car went over the curb, along an elevated embankment and into a ravine June 27, leaving an unconscious passenger trapped briefly inside the wreckage.

A private ambulance happened to be driving past the scene of the accident around 8:15 p.m. The Midwest Medical Transport Company crew offered help to the entrapped Chesterland boy, 17, as Chagrin Falls firefighters were called.

The crash occurred about 800 feet west of Chagrin River Road. The eastbound 1999 Chrysler Sebring was being driven in rainy conditions, with standing or moving water reported on the roadway.

For unknown reasons, the car drove over the right-side curb, into and alongside the embankment, then downhill into the heavily wooded ravine, striking several small and large trees before coming to rest sideways against one of them.

An emergency helicopter was not immediately available. A critical care transport truck was already on the way.

Chagrin Falls firefighters also took the driver, another Chesterland boy, 17, to Hillcrest, as well as the backseat passenger, a Newbury Township girl, 16, both with possible injuries. No patient condition updates were available from Hillcrest.

Fairmount Boulevard was closed from the Hunting Valley police station up to Chagrin River Road, both at the time of the crash and then for about two hours on the evening of June 30, for the regional accident investigation unit to return to the scene.

The driver was cited for failure to control.
