A 17-YEAR-OLD was rushed to hospital after being hit by a bus in the city centre on Tuesday.

His condition is unknown.

A 62-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with a road traffic offence following the incident.

We previously reported that 999 crews were called to Killermont Street at the junction with Renfield Street near Buchanan Bus Station around 3pm.

Police locked down the intersection amid the incident and a First Bus could be seen with its hazards on in the middle of the street.

A spokesperson for First Glasgow said: “We can confirm an incident took place on Killermont Street in Glasgow city centre this afternoon at approximately 3pm between one of our vehicles and a pedestrian in the road.

“Emergency services were called to the scene immediately and we are continuing to work closely with them.

“The thoughts of everyone at First Bus are with all those involved in the incident.”

A Police Scotland[1] spokesperson added: “Around 3pm on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, officers received a report of a man being struck by a bus in Killermont Street, near to Renfield Street, in Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended, and a 17-year-old male was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

“A 62-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with a road traffic offence.”

Scottish Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.

It comes after calls were made to accelerate the roll-out of a 20mph speed limit in the city centre following a spike in road deaths across the city.

We reported last week[2] that there have been more deaths on Glasgow’s roads already in 2023 than in the whole of last year.
