The roads police visit most often on the hunt for speeding drivers

Watch out, because more often than not, the police are about on these West Midlands roads. Cops return to the same roads again and again in camera vans which will be parked up and on the lookout for speeding drivers.

There are two ways which motorists are often caught speeding. One is by average speed cameras[1], which have been rolled out across the West Midlands in increasing numbers over recent years.

Many drivers will know roughly where these fixed cameras operate but less easy to predict are the locations of mobile camera vans, which will turn up unannounced on various days. And they catch out hundreds of speeding motorists as a result.

These vans will often return to the same locations month after month as they are known speeding hotspots and not covered by speed cameras. Police may be accused of targeting unsuspecting drivers but they say everyone should stick to the speed limit at all times and, as long as they do, they will have nothing to worry about.

And they hope it will make motorists think twice about putting their foot down. These are the roads in Birmingham and the Black Country camera vans have visited most often this year, up to June.

The data was revealed following a freedom of information request to West Midlands Police[3]. And it comes as police chiefs want to put more average speed cameras[4] on the region’s roads amid safety concerns.
