Two drivers die in Devon single-vehicle crashes in 24 hours

Tragedy struck twice within 24 hours on Devon roads as two driver died. Police have issued appeals for witnesses and dashcam footage after the men were killed in separate single-vehicle collisions on Friday and Saturday.

A man aged in his thirties died in a single-vehicle crash on the A30 near the village of Yarcombe on Saturday (July 1). They found a white Ford Fiesta had been involved in the collision and a man from Somerset was declared dead at the scene. His family are now being supported by police officers.

The A30 was closed in both directions with traffic at a standstill for several hours during the morning and afternoon while police dealt with the incident. A police spokesperson said: “The police would like to thank the public for their patience while the road was closed to allow for an investigation by specialist officers.”

Police have also now said a 57-year-old local man died in a single-vehicle crash involving a blue Vauxhall Astra on the A377 in Crediton on Friday, June 30. The road was shut both ways and drivers urged to avoid the area after the collision happened at about 12.50pm.

The road near Barnstaple Cross was closed for hours while police, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, and the Devon Air Ambulance attended the scene. A police spokesperson said: “Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 57-year-old local man died at the scene.

Police want anyone who witnessed either incident or who has dashcam footage to call police on 101 quoting log 354 of July 1 for the Yarcombe crash and log 361 of June 30 for the incident at Crediton.
