Woman in hospital after crash involving pedestrian and van

A woman is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash involving a pedestrian and a van. 

At around 2.30pm today (July 11), police received reports of a crash in Market Street, Whitworth and closed the road between the junctions of Healey Corner and Tonacliffe.

The crash involved a woman pedestrian in her 70s and a van. The woman has been taken to hospital and she is suffering serious injuries.

There is heavy traffic building as a result of the crash and police say the road is expected to be closed for a while.

A spokesperson for the police said: “We were called at around 2.30pm today (Tuesday, July 11) to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a van on Market Street, Whitworth.

“We attended with colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service and found a woman, aged in her 70s, with serious injuries.

“The road has been closed and will remain shut while collision investigation officers attend. In the meantime we are asking people to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.”

Traffic updates website, INRIX states: “Road blocked and queueing traffic due to police incident on A671 Market Street both ways at B6377 Shawclough Road (Healy Corner). B6377 Shawclough Road is also blocked.”
