10 cars and trucks stolen most often in Alabama
Vehicle thefts were up 7% in 2022 with full-sized pickup trucks topping the list.
Those were among the findings in a recent analysis of the most stolen vehicles in each state conducted by the National Insurance Crime Bureau or NICB.[1] According to the study, full-sized pickups accounted for more than 25% of vehicle thefts reported nationwide in 2022, a decrease from a high of 33% in 2021.
Vehicle theft rates for sedans, including Honda, Hyundai and Kia, followed those of full-size pickups.
More than 85 percent of passenger vehicles reported stolen in 2022 were subsequently recovered by law enforcement or other means, with 34 percent recovered within a day of the vehicle being reported stolen, according to NICB.
Here were Alabama’s top 10 stolen vehicles for 2022, the most frequent vehicle year stolen and the number of thefts:
