A14 crash sees Kent man arrested as car driver left fighting for life

A man in his 30s has been left fighting for his life after a crash on a major Cambridgeshire[1] road. Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the A14[2] near the Suffolk[3] border and Chippenham at around 4.50am on Tuesday (August 26).

The crash involved a black Vauxhall Corsa and a HGV[4]. The injured man, who was driving the Vauxhall, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with serious injuries, with police describing his condition as ‘critical’.

The road remained closed throughout Tuesday morning as a result of the crash. Both carriageways had reopened by around[5] midday and an investigation into the crash is ongoing.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “A 33-year-old man from Kent was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified and remains in custody. Anyone who witnessed the collision should call 101 and ask to speak to a member of the Road Policing Unit, quoting Op Clements.”
