A19 crash: Three vans collide near Doxford Park, Sunderland

Motorists on the A19 northbound this afternoon faced severe delays after three vans collided near Doxford Park in Sunderland.

Traffic was backed up for miles as emergency services were spotted heading to the scene just after 2pm from the bridge at Herrington Road that crosses the A19.

Police have since confirmed that the delays were caused by a three-vehicle collision involving vans.

Nobody is suspected to have been seriously injured.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Officers are currently at the scene of a three-vehicle collision on the A19.

“Shortly before 2.30pm today, police received a report three vans has collided on the northbound carriage, just past Doxford park.

“Officers and emergency services are currently in attendance and it is not believed anyone has sustained serious injuries.”

Following the incident, traffic is now flowing normally and the road is clear.
