A380 crash: Drivers out of their cars as crash on bridge causes gridlock
There is standstill traffic and motorists are out of their cars after a crash on a major Devon road. A two-vehicle collision has happened southbound on the A380 bridge over the River Teign.
Road closures are in place and drivers are being urged to avoid the area. Police say one person is currently trapped, but is not believed to be seriously injured. Traffic reporting website Inrix says that the incident involved a truck carrying concrete.
There are huge queues of traffic as a result of the collision. Pictures from the scene show some motorists are even getting out of their cars due to the length of the delays.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Devon Live: “We were called at around 11.30am reporting a two vehicle collision on Besigheim Way, Newton Abbot, close to the Penn Inn roundabout. Two vehicles are involved and one person is trapped but currently not believe to be seriously injured.
“Closures are in place as Ambulance and emergency attend. We advise road users to avoid the area.”
DevonAlert have added: “A380 Southbound closed between Ware Barton and Pen Inn due to a RTC. Road likely to be closed some time. Please use an alternative route.”
Pictures from the scene show long traffic queues in the area as emergency services deal with the incident.
