BMW driver dies after colliding with HGV parked in A483 layby

A man has s died following a crash on the A483 by the border this morning. The collision involved a blue BMW 3 Series and a stationary HGV parked in a layby on the road.

Police have confirmed that the driver of the BMW, a 27-year-old man from Chester, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The road remains shut from Belgrave to Rossett[1] with drivers urged to avoid the area.

Reports from the scene this morning stated that one of the vehicles involved in the crash was ablaze. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service assisted police and the Welsh Ambulance Service at the scene.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 9.25am on Monday 7 August Cheshire Police were called to a two-vehicle collision on the border with North Wales. The collision involved a blue BMW 3 series and a stationary HGV parked in a layby on the A483. ‌

“Sadly, the driver of the BMW, a 27-year-old man from Chester, died at the scene. Next of kin have been informed. ‌The A483 is closed from Belgrave traffic lights/Junction to J7 A483 Rossett, south bound, while emergency services work at the scene. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‍ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‍ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‍ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‍ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

“The road is also closed northbound between junction 7 and the Post House roundabout. Anyone with information should call Cheshire police on 101 quoting IML 1614843. ”

A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called this morning at 9.23 to a road traffic collision on the A483. Crews have now left the scene and handed the incident to NWP.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today (07 August) at around 9:23am to reports of a road traffic collision located at the Pulford/Gresford by-pass, Chester. We sent two emergency ambulances, a duty operations manager and one Cymru high acuity response unit to the scene.”
