Chippenham traffic as road works begin on key roundabout

The scheduled improvement scheme at Malmesbury Roundabout,[1] on the A350 in Chippenham, started on the morning of Tuesday, August 15.

The inside lane of the roundabout and the left-hand lane approaching the junction from the A350 West Cepen Way were both closed off to traffic and will remain shut until 3.30pm on Wednesday, August 16, according to the council’s roadworks map.

This caused some delays for queuing drivers on Tuesday and is expected to do so again on Wednesday.

Wiltshire Times:

The works had initially been due to start on Monday, August 14, but were pushed back a day after an initial delay of several weeks.

Many road users have been appealing for improvements to the roundabout after it was labelled an “accident hotspot.”

Wiltshire Council previously announced the works will last around three weeks in total, with different traffic management methods being employed during this time.

During the project, temporary signage currently in place at the roundabout will be replaced, while new carriageway word marking will also be added.

Wiltshire Times:

The map-type advance direction signs at all approaches will also undergo an overhaul to reflect the new road layout, and works will be carried out at crossing points.
