Crash between three vans on major North East A road causes miles of tailbacks

A collision that caused miles of traffic tailbacks on a major North East A road early this afternoon was between three vans, police have confirmed.

Motorists on the A19 northbound this afternoon faced severe delays after three vans collided near Doxford Park in Sunderland.

Traffic was backed up for miles as emergency services were spotted heading to the scene just after 2pm from the bridge at Herrington Road that crosses the A19.
