Driver charged in 2022 double-fatal crash accused of going too slow on U.S. 131

KENT COUNTY, MI -- A U.S. 131 driver who police say was going too slowly -- or perhaps even stopped -- has been charged with a 15-year felony for a chain reaction crash that killed two.
Antoine Azard is charged with two counts of reckless driving causing death.
State police said he was driving a Nissan Pathfinder south on U.S. 131[1] near 68th Street about noon June 6, 2022. He was in the right lane traveling at a “very slow speed, well below the minimum speed limit,” police said in court documents.
State police said a Chevy Equinox driven by Dorothy Gay Brouwer struck the back of the Pathfinder. Then, a Mazda CX-9 driven by Teresa Michelle Shear struck the rear of Brouwer’s vehicle.
Both women died from the collisions.
It’s not clear why Azard was traveling so slowly.
