First picture of bus driver who died in horror crash near Newton Mearns

A devastated Stagecoach boss has named the tragic young bus driver who lost his life in a crash on the A77 near Newton Mearns.[1][2][3]

Gordon Stirling passed away five days after the service 4 bus he was driving was involved in a crash with a Ford Transit van on Monday, August 14.

The 23-year-old former St Joseph’s Academy student, from Crosshouse, sustained life-threatening injuries following the collision, while the 42-year-old van driver, who was in a serious but stable condition, is now stable, reports Ayrshire Live.[4]

Stagecoach West Scotland’s managing director, Fiona Docherty, says the entire workforce has been left heartbroken by the loss and their condolences go out to Gordon’s family and friends.

She said: “It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of our colleague Gordon Stirling. Gordon was the driver of the service 4 bus which was involved in a road traffic incident with another vehicle on Monday, August 14 on the A77.

“The whole Stagecoach team is devastated about this and we all send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. We are also supporting those colleagues at Stagecoach who knew him.

“We thank the emergency services for their response and the NHS team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. A full investigation is under way into this incident.”

The bus company has confirmed a full investigation is ongoing into the incident.
