Football clubs to honour young fan killed in ‘murder’ bus crash
A bus driver who passed away after a crash in Ayrshire is to be honoured by football fans at an upcoming match.
Gordon Stirling died in hospital almost a week after the incident, which involved a single-decker Stagecoach bus and a Ford Transit van on the A77 near Galston, on August 14.
The 23-year-old from Crosshouse was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with life threatening injuries after the crash, where he later passed away.
Police later confirmed that a murder investigation had been launched, and the 42-year-old van driver had been arrested in connection.
Mr Stirling was a supporter of Kilmarnock FC, and the club is asking attendees at an upcoming match with Motherwell FC to pay their tributes.

In a statement, the club said: “Everyone at the club sends their deepest condolences to Gordon’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
“In memory of a loved member of the Killie family, both Kilmarnock FC and Motherwell FC are encouraging supporters to join a 60-second applause on the 23rd minute of this weekend’s match at Fir Park.
“The club would like to thank Motherwell FC for their support in warmly embracing the tribute.”
Mr Stirling’s family and friends have also paid tribute, and asked for help in finding a special Mini Cooper Hearse or Trailer for his funeral.
The 23-year-old was an avid fan of cars, but especially Mini Coopers.
Mum Lesley Stirling wrote in a post on Facebook: “We are trying to source a Mini Cooper Hearse or Trailer that can be hired for Gordon’s funeral.
“It has to be in Scotland people as we know of one in England but sadly too far away.
“Everybody that knew him will undoubtedly know his passion for cars, but his absolute love was his precious Minis.
“Please share to anyone you think. Thank you all and thank you for the lovely messages we have received.”
Police have said extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash, and anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 3147 of August 14.
