Fundraiser for Cornwall dad whose life was cut short after horror crash
The family of a much-loved dad and grandad who would 'light up any room' but whose life was tragically cut short after a horror crash in Cornwall are fundraising to help with his funeral costs[1].
James Turner died on the evening of July 25[2] after a fatal collision on the B3252 at Horningtops, off the A38[3] near Liskeard. He was killed when the motorbike he was riding crashed with a tractor and a trailer.
Tributes flooded in[4] for the self-employed landscaper, from Widegates, following the incident. The death of the 'respected' and 'selfless' dad, partner, son, brother and grandad has left 'a huge hole' in his family, who say they have been 'overwhelmed' by the support shown to them since the tragic collision.
Now his son-in-law has launched a Gofundme to help his heartbroken family give James the send-off he deserves. Ben Hirst said: "James was a much-loved dad, partner, son, brother and grandad. He would do anything for anyone. He was happy, kind, caring and selfless, and would help anyone in times of need.
"Everyone who knew him would say he was always cracking jokes and up for a laugh. He would light up any room as soon as he entered it. He was hardworking and very much loved and respected by all those he worked for as a self-employed landscaper.
"His daughter Finlay, son Jace and partner Lisa are all devastated by their loss and they will miss him deeply. His death has left a huge hole in their hearts that can never be filled. As a family we would like to thank people for their condolences and words of comfort at this tragic time and are overwhelmed with the support everyone has given us."
Ben added: "We have set up a gofundme page[5] to help with the funeral costs at this difficult time. James helped so many and would help anyone in need, so it would be great if we could repay the favour at this tragic time."
The gofundme reads: "James Turner tragically lost his life on the evening of July 25, 2023 following a collision between himself on his motorbike and a tractor.
"James has left behind a partner, children and grandchildren. He was a self-employed, hardworking man and took good care of his family. At a time like this, with broken hearts, no one should have to consider their finances. So we are reaching out hoping some of you are able to donate to help support the family through this difficult time. James helped so many and would do anything for anyone, so it’s time to repay that favour, that you never got the chance to do when he was with us."
In a statement released at the time, his partner Lisa said that there were no words to explain how sorely he would be missed by everyone.
Emergency services were called just after 9pm on Tuesday, July 25 following the collision. Sadly, James was pronounced deceased at the scene .The road was closed for around eight hours while a full forensic examination of the scene took place. Officers are investigating the circumstances of the incident and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
They are also keen to hear from anyone with relevant dashcam footage. Please contact police via the Devon and Cornwall Police[6] website[7] or telephone 101, quoting log 986 of 25/07/23.
