Girl, six, loses fight for life after being hit by van in crash that also put boy, 14, and girl, 13, in hospital

  • The six-year-old was one of three children struck by a van in Barton on Tuesday 

A six-year-old girl has died after being hit by a van, in a crash that also put a 14-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl in hospital.

The youngster was one of three children struck by the van in in Barton, near Preston, on Tuesday.

The two other children suffered less serious injuries but remain in hospital for treatment, police said.

Lancashire Police[2] say they were called to the A6 Garstang Road at 1.15pm. The force said it had received reports of a serious collision involving a van and three children.

They were all rushed to hospital, where the six-year-old tragically died from her injuries earlier today. Her family were by her bedside.

A police spokesman said: ‘Our thoughts are with all of her loved ones at this time.’

A 59-year-old man from Nateby, near Garstang, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has been released under investigation while inquiries continue, the force said.

Sgt Rebecca Price said: ‘A little girl has very sadly lost her life as a result of this collision and my thoughts are with her loved ones.

‘I cannot begin to imagine what they are going through at this time.

‘Our investigation into this collision is ongoing and I would continue to appeal to anyone with information or footage to get in touch.’
