Horror as three children rushed to hospital after being hit by van

Three children were rushed to hospital after being hit by a van in a horrific crash on Tuesday afternoon (August 15).

Police were called to the scene of the serious collision on Garstang Road (A6) in Barton, Lancashire, at around 1.15pm to reports of a van hitting pedestrians.

Three children were taken to hospital from the scene, with one currently in a critical but stable condition. The road was closed off for a number of hours for investigations to be carried out.

A man, aged 59 from Nateby has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remains in custody to be questioned. Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We were called to Garstang Road at 1.15pm today to reports of a serious collision involving a van and pedestrians.

“The pedestrians, three children, have been taken to hospital. One is currently in a critical but stable condition.

“A 59-year-old man from Nateby, near Garstang, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody at this time.

“The road remains closed and is likely to do so for some time. Diversions are in place and we would ask motorists to avoid the area.
