Internet ‘disaster’ as Stroud families claim crash has left them offline for days

Families in part of Stroud have said they have been left without internet access for days after a crash caused disruption. Many locals claim they are affected by Wi-Fi issues after a collision on Rodborough Hill on Wednesday (August 23).

A two-vehicle crash took place on the A46 Bath Road[1] at around 10am that day. It is reported the crash took out a BT Openreach box and led to a broadband outage in the area.

Today (August 26) some families have told GloucestershireLive[2] they are still without internet. One mother has called it a “disaster” with a “huge impact” as local children are at home for the summer holidays and parents also work from home.

It is understood that the issue is affecting customers of BT and Sky. Stroud Rugby Club offered a lifeline to locals on Friday (August 25) when it opened its doors to residents who needed to use the internet.

A statement from Stroud Rugby Club on its Facebook page reads: “On Wednesday a vehicle collided with a BT OpenReach cabinet on Rodborough Hill, leading to an outage for users of BT and Sky. If you have been affected by this and need to access the internet for any reason at all, you can drop in for as long as you need to.”

GloucestershireLive has approached BT for comment.
