Live A14 traffic updates today as crash on Cambridgeshire border leaves road closed

The A14 is closed following a crash on the Cambridgeshire border today (Tuesday, August 29). Emergency services are at the scene following the crash on the westbound carriageway between Junction 39 and Junction 37,

The crash and closure were first reported at around 5.13am. A traffic diversion is in place while the road is shut.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “The A14 in Cambridgeshire is closed in both directions between J39 (Kentford) and J37 (Exning) due to a serious collision. All emergency services are in attendance, including the Air Ambulance.

“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at about 4.50am today (29 August) with reports of a collision on the A14 near Chippenham. The collision, which involved a car and a HGV, blocked the road. Ambulance crews have attended, but details of any injuries are unclear. The road has been closed in both directions between junction 39 and 37 while the incident is dealt with.”

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: “A14 Westbound closed, stationary traffic due to serious accident, a car and a lorry involved from J39 B1506 (Kentford) to J37 A142 Fordham Road (Newmarket / Exning). Congestion to bury road in Kentford as traffic diverts.

“Currently stopped in both directions for the Air Ambulance, after a crash westbound at 04:50. Eastbound closure length shortened.Diversion – west via Newmarket, and the A142 (and vice versa).”
