Live as police close A30 Staines Bypass after ‘serious’ crash

The A30 Staines Bypass has been shut in both directions after a “serious” crash, reported to involve a car and a van. Emergency services are at the scene with the road expected to remain closed “for several hours”, according to police.

The incident was first reported shortly after 5.30am and involved a crash on the eastbound carriageway. The A30 has been closed in both directions for nearly 1.5 miles between the M25 and Shortwood Common at Ashford Park.

Traffic has built in Staines town centre and on the M25 before J13. A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “Officers are currently on scene and dealing with a road traffic collision on the A30 Staines Bypass between Junction 13 of the M25 and the Crooked Billet Roundabout.

“Both carriageways are closed and are likely to remain closed for several hours.” Drivers have been urged to find alternative routes of travel through the area. An update from emergency services is expected.

Travel service Inrix said: “A30 London Road in both directions closed due to serious accident, a car and a van involved between M25 J13 (Staines) and A308 Staines Bypass (Crooked Billet). After a crash on the eastbound side. Trapped traffic will be turned around.”
