Live Suffolk traffic updates today as A14 crash near Ipswich leaves road closed

The A14 is closed in Suffolk following a crash and diesel spill today (Wednesday, August 16). Police and National Highways are at the scene on the westbound carriageway near Ipswich.

The road was first reported to be shut at around 2.30pm. The closure is in place between Whitehouse and Claydon.

A Suffolk Police spokesperson said: “Drivers should be aware the A14 westbound between Whitehouse & Claydon is currently shut due to a serious diesel spill – police called just after 2pm – drivers are thanked in advance for their patience.”

A National Highways spokesperson said: “The A14 is closed westbound between Junction 53 (Whitton) and Junction 52 (Claydon) due to a collision and a large oil spill. Suffolk Police are in attendance.

“Delays are likely on approach to the closure and diversion routes. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: “The A14 Westbound blocked, queueing traffic due to accident, a lorry and a ladder involved and fuel spillage at J53 West Meadows (Whitehouse Interchange). Congestion to J55 (A12 Copdock interchange). All traffic was held at 2.35pm.”
