Drivers were warned of long queues after a lorry caught on fire near Heathrow Airport.
The incident happened on the clockwise carriageway on the M25 between J15 (M4) and J16 (M40) at about 12noon today (August 29).
National Highways warned of severe delays at about 3pm as two lanes out of four remained closed during the recovery work.
Firefighters from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service remain on the scene this afternoon.
Traffic service Inrix said the lorry contained car batteries, which the firefighters were removing.
Drivers were told to plan ahead of their journey if travelling through the area and to approach with care.
Lanes 1 and 2 (of 4) remain closed on the #M25[1] clockwise between J15 (#M4[2]) & J16 (#M40[3]) due to an ongoing lorry fire.
@FBFRSofficial remain on scene and are likely to be tackling the fire for some time.
