M4 fireball as car flips and burns with air ambulance called to scene
A car overturned and caught fire on the M4 on Sunday night. An air ambulance was called alongside emergency services and the motorway was closed eastbound between junction 18 for Bath and junction 17 for Chippenham.
A woman has been taken to hospital in Swindon following the incident near junction 17 for Leigh Delamere which involved two vehicles at around 10pm. Traffic westbound was held, according to National Highways.
According to National Highways, the air ambulance left the scene shortly before 11.30pm. The motorway reopened just after 12am in the early hours of Monday morning (August 21).

National Highways said: “The vehicles involved in the earlier collision on the #M4 eastbound between J18 (#Bath) – J17 (#Chippenham) have now been cleared to the hard shoulder. All emergency have resumed and the road has been reopened.”
Wiltshire Police said: “Shortly after 10pm last night, emergency services attended a two vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 near Leigh Delamere services.
“A full closure of the M4 was put in place between junctions 17 and 18 and a woman was taken to GWH. The road reopened at 12.45am.”
