M5 crash: Air ambulance on scene after serious car and van crash

An air ambulance has been called to a serious crash on the M5 near Tewkesbury, police have confirmed. West Mercia Police are in attendance at the serious crash, which is reported to involve a car and a van, on the motorway.

The crash took place near junction 8, near the M50 sometime before 6.30pm this evening (August 18). The motorway has been closed northbound at the junction, with reports of congestion extending past Tewkesbury.

In a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, West Mercia Police asked drivers to avoid the area. The ambulance and air ambulance service are in attendance.

West Mercia Police said: “Officers are at the scene at the scene of a serious collision on the M5 north just before J8, near the M50. Ambulance and air ambulance also in attendance. Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.”
