M60: Woman rescued after crash involving 3 cars and truck

On Tuesday at around 3.40pm, three lanes out of four were closed on the motorway clockwise at junction 17, Whitefield, following the crash.

Emergency services attended between junctions 17 and 18 and firefighters helped a woman to safety before she was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At approximately 3.50pm on Tuesday, three fire engines from Agecroft, Farnworth and Whitefield, alongside the technical response unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, attended a road traffic collision on the M60 between junctions 17 and 18.

“The collision involved three cars and a truck.

“Firefighters used specialist equipment to extricate a woman from one of the vehicles, before she was transferred to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

Fire crews were in attendance for around 30 minutes.”

Traffic backed up from junction 17 Whitefield to junction nine at The Trafford Centre following the crash.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 3.40pm today (Tuesday), officers responded to reports of a road traffic collision between junctions 17 and 18 on the M60.

“One woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.”

A spokesperson for National Highways North West added: “We closed three of the four lanes after a collision involving four vehicles. However, all lanes are open now, after we completed recovery of the vehicles.”

The severe delays have now cleared, and traffic is easing.

Traffic monitoring website Inrix said the delays are cleared.

It states: “Severe delays cleared and traffic easing, earlier accident on M60 clockwise before J17 A56 Bury New Road (Prestwich/Whitefield). Previous congestion to M60, J9 (Trafford Park)”
