Man dies in pedestrian-truck collision in County Offaly

CO OFFALY, Ireland - Yet another pedestrian has been killed on Irish roads.

The latest fatality occurred on Saturday morning, in the early hours, on the M6 Motorway, in Tullamore, Co. Offaly.

A man aged in his early 50s was struck by a truck on the motorway. The fatal collision occurred around 4:45am Saturday between the M6's junction 5 and junction 6 westbound.

Gardai are leading the investigation into the crash. The pedestrian was killed instantly. His body was later taken to the Mortuary in Tullamore Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 40s, was uninjured.

The M6 Motorway between junction 5 and junction 6 westbound was closed for a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions were put in place.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward. They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to investigators.
