Earlier reports suggested that a “stabbing” had taken place, however this was refuted by the force.
A section of King’s Road was closed following the incident but has since re-opened.
The spokesman added: “Officers investigating have urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
In particular, they want anyone with relevant CCTV, mobile phone footage, or dashcam footage in the area at the time to come forward.
Information can be reported to Sussex Police online or on 101 quoting serial 152 of 07/08.”
