Motorcyclist dies after collision with Jeep near Comstock Park

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- A 30-year-old Comstock Park man died in a collision between a motorcycle and Jeep near Comstock Park, police said.

The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 on Pine Island Drive near Scott View Drive NE.

Kent County sheriff’s deputies said the Comstock Park man was riding a motorcycle south on Pine Island Drive when it collided with a northbound Jeep Wrangler that was turning into Pine Island Elementary.

The elementary school is on the west side of the road.

Two people in the Jeep, a 44-year-old Walker man and a 12-year-old passenger, had minor injuries

Deputies said they continue to investigate the crash and would like to speak to any witnesses. Specifically, police said they believe a white midsized SUV also was southbound at the time and turned into the school drive.
