N.H. men arrested after police say one hit a police cruiser and officer with car
Two New Hampshire men were arrested Friday morning after attempting to flee police officers, according to the Boston Police Department.[1]
Isiah Calden, 20, from Manchester, New Hampshire, and Xavier Luis Morel 21, of Hillsboro, New Hampshire, were arrested following a vehicle crash where a firearm was found, police said in a press release.
At around 3:40 a.m. on Aug. 4 Boston officers assigned to the Dorchester and Mattapan area, were on patrol near Circuit Drive when they found a large group of around 150 people with about 50 vehicles. Police said that the officers “attempted to disperse the large group when their attention was drawn to a motor vehicle that was driving through the grass on the opposite side of the road on Circuit Drive.”
Officers followed the vehicle with their lights and sirens on, and tried to pull them over. However the vehicle fled from the officers, which caused the officers to stop following the vehicle, police said.
Police said the vehicle later crashed in a fence and hit a tree at 105 Glenway St. where Calden, whom police said was the passenger, abandoned the vehicle.
Morel, who police said was driving, stayed in the vehicle and reversed it, “striking the officers marked cruiser as well as striking the officer with the driver’s side door,” according to the release.
Calden was arrested after he was found in a backyard. Officers also found a Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun with a magazine which can hold 15 rounds, police said. The gun was loaded with one round in the chamber, and had 13 rounds in the magazine.
Several officers responded and searched the area with K-9 Cedric who found Morel under a blue tarp on Greenwood Street. Morel was then arrested, the release said.
Police said that Calden is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.
Morel is charged with driving to endanger and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with property damage, according to the release.
Both Morel and Calden will be arraigned in the Dorchester District Court.
