Pedestrian struck by City of Cleveland truck, police say

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A pedestrian was hit by a City of Cleveland truck Friday afternoon, according to Cleveland police.
The pedestrian was seriously injured in the incident that happened at 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of West 72nd Street and Lorain Avenue, police said.
A Public Works truck was driving when, at the intersection, the pedestrian tried to jump on the running boards of the truck. Running boards are platforms that help passengers get in and out of a vehicle with ease.
While trying to get on the running boards, the pedestrian was struck, police said.
Cleveland EMS took the pedestrian to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment. As of Saturday morning, the pedestrian’s current condition was not immediately available.
The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit is looking into the incident.
