Sunderland A19 crash: Person in hospital after car overturns
Emergency services were alerted to the collision on the northbound carriageway of the A19 near the A183 Pennywell junction, at about noon today.
The crash caused severe traffic delays with tailbacks of up to four miles reported.
Multiple units from the North East Ambulance Service attended and treated patients at the scene before taking them to the Sunderland Royal Hospital.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said earlier today: “At around 12pm today (Friday) police received a report of an overturned vehicle towing a caravan on the A19 northbound at Sunderland, between the A690 and A183 junctions.
“Emergency services are currently attending the scene where one lane is closed.”

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a road traffic collision today (August 4) shortly after 12pm on the A19 northbound.
"We dispatched one double-crewed ambulance, two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and one clinical team leader.
"One patient was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital."
The scene was cleared by about 3pm, with delays remaining before the traffic cleared.
