Suspected drunk driver crashes into tree: Westlake Police Blotter
WESTLAKE, Ohio –
OVI crash: Hummingbird Way
The Westlake Police Department at 4 p.m. on Aug. 21 responded to a call about a one-car crash on Hummingbird Way.
Officers and a rescue squad arrived to find that a woman had crashed into a tree on the tree lawn. The 51-year-old Westlake resident appeared to be impaired. She was cited with OVI and failure to control after being taken to UH St. John Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver refused an alcohol test.
Drug arrest: Columbia Road
Officers stopped a vehicle at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 on Columbia Road near the I-90 entrance for a traffic violation, and soon uncovered signs of drug use, according to a police press release.
The pair, both residents of nearby communities, had recently been at an area motel, according to the police.
The driver did not have identification. Investigation revealed that he and his passenger possessed methamphetamine, heroin mixed with fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia including needles and tourniquets. They were arrested and jailed.
An animal control officer took the pair’s dog to the Westlake Kennel. The 47-year-old Sheffield Lake man and 41-year-old North Ridgeville woman were charged with felony possession offenses, according to the police statement.
Firearm and suspected marijuana: I-90
The Westlake Police Department received a call at 9:50 p.m. on Aug. 18 about a hit-skip accident on I-90 near Crocker Road.
An officer noticed a vehicle matching the description of the fleeing vehicle on Crocker Road coming from the area of the highway at the same time. The vehicle squealed its tires on Clemens Road and was stopped on Bradley near Clemens.
While the vehicle had not been involved in the hit-skip, the officer noted signs of drug use in the car. Investigation revealed a loaded firearm and suspected marijuana in the passenger compartment.
The driver was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana, both of which are misdemeanors.
