Thousands of Durham residents lose power after car crashes, snaps power line in half on South Roxboro Street

Thousands of Durham residents are without power Saturday morning after a car crashed into a utility pole on South Roxboro Street.

On Saturday morning, the Duke Energy outage map indicated that more than 3,600 people in Durham were without power. As of noon, there are 2,000 people still without power.

At 10 a.m., Duke Energy’s website said the expected time of restoration was 2:30 p.m. Saturday. However, as of noon, the time of restoration has been pushed to 8:30 p.m. for most residents.

It appears that the utility pole snapped in half, with the bottom half of the pole almost touching the ground.
