Tractor driver rushed to hospital after A47 oil spill crash

A tractor driver has been taken to hospital after a single-vehicle crash, which caused an oil spill. The police were called to the incident[1] at 7.45am on Monday (August 21), and the A47 was subsequently closed between Thorney and Guyhirn while the incident was dealt with

The tractor driver is not thought to have suffered serious injuries, but the crash caused the road to be closed for five hours, only reopening at 1.10pm. A Cambridgeshire[2] Constabulary spokesperson said while the incident was ongoing: “We are currently at the scene of a collision on the A47 at Thorney involving a HGV. We were called at about 07.45pm today (21 August).

Fire[3] and ambulance[4] are also at the scene. The road will remain closed while recovery takes place. No serious injuries have been reported at this time and our logs indicate no other vehicles were involved.”

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue asked drivers to “avoid the area for now”, and added that travellers should check traffic updates before heading out. Cambridgeshire

Constabulary also added: “The A47 Thorney is now open and clear. Safe driving.”
