A major route through Wiltshire has reopened after a fatal crash saw it shut for nearly 24 hours.

The A36 was closed between Warminster and Chapmanslade following a serious collision at around 2pm on Friday, August 11.

One woman, who was in her 70s, was killed in the incident, which involved two cars and an HGV.

Two others, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, were left seriously injured.

The main road was closed overnight while police conducted forensic investigations at the scene and remained blocked throughout Saturday morning.

During that time motorists were urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Shortly after 1pm on Saturday, almost 24 hours after the initial incident, National Highways confirmed that the road had been reopened in both directions.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police added: “The woman’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.

“Any witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage are asked to contact the serious collision investigation team on 01225 694597 quoting log number POL-20230811-0199.
