Witness appeal as boy dies after falling from bridge on M6
Police are appealing for witnesses after a boy died on the M6.
Officers were called to reports of concerns for his safety, near junction 21 at Warrington[1], at around 9.40pm on Thursday, August 17. The motorway was closed by police in both directions[2] and drivers were told to avoid the area.
Upon arrival, police found the boy had fallen from a bridge onto the road, and despite best efforts he died at the scene[3]. Now police are asking for witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
Sergeant Russell Sime, of the Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was an incredibly tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy who sadly died at the scene. As part of our enquiries we are looking for witnesses or those with dashcam footage to contact us.
“We believe the boy may have been struck on the carriageway after falling from the bridge. It would have been dark at this time of night, and it is possible that drivers on the motorway could have been unaware.”
National Highways reported the stretch of motorway was fully closed off from around 10pm on Thursday night. The northbound carriageway was then shut off for several hours overnight, with the road not fully reopening until around 5am on Friday, August 18.
