A CHILD has been seriously injured and airlifted to hospital following a two-vehicle crash this afternoon.

The A351 at Sandford was closed earlier today following a crash involving a Black Volkswagen Up! and a white Vauxhall Zafira at around 2.50pm.

The youngster, a passenger in the VW, was rushed to Southampton General Hospital.

Meanwhile, a woman who had been driving the same vehicle was also hospitalised with serious injuries.

All other occupants of the vehicles were checked over at the scene and are not believed to have been seriously injured, according to police.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage, to help them investigate the crash that happened near Wareham.

Police constable Adam Carr, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge anyone who saw what happened or motorists who might have captured relevant dashcam footage to please contact us.

“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Dorset Police via email at [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230135643.
