41-year-old Tewksbury man dies after truck rear-ended on I-93 in Reading

A 41-year-old man from Tewksbury was killed in an overnight car crash on Interstate 93 in Reading, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, on I-93 north near the Commerce Way ramp, state police said.

Investigators believe a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, that was stopped in the right lane, was rear-ended by a 2022 International MV607 box truck registered out of New Hampshire.

The box truck pushed the Silverado into the lane leading to the ramp, police said.

The driver of the Silverado, Michael Murphy, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the box truck, an unnamed 51-year-old man from Wilder, Vermont, was uninjured, police said.

The right two lanes of the highway were closed for three hours because of the crash, state police added.

The investigation into the facts and circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
