A30 crash: Suspected drug driver arrested after man seriously hurt in collision
A man has been arrested following a serious collision on the A30[1] yesterday (September 21) that left three people in hospital[2]. The incident, involving a black BMW 3 Series Touring and a Silver Mercedes E-Class Estate, happened at around 11am at Canon’s Town, near Penzance[3].
At the time of the collision, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police[4] confirmed two people had been left trapped in their vehicles. It was later confirmed that three people required treatment at hospital.
One of the individuals injured, a man in his 80s, is believed to have sustained serious injuries. In an update issued today (September 22), police have confirmed a 39-year-old man from Penzance has been arrested on suspicion of driving dangerously and driving whilst unfit through drugs.
He has since been released on bail until October 31. Officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.
A statement issued by Devon and Cornwall Police reads: “Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a serious road traffic collision on the A30 at Canon’s Town, near Penzance. Police were notified of a collision involving a black BMW 3 Series Touring and a Silver Mercedes E-Class Estate at around 11am on 21 September.
“As a result of this collision the driver of one of the vehicles, a man in his 80s, sustained serious injuries. A 39-year-old man from Penzance was arrested on suspicion of driving dangerously and driving whilst unfit through drugs. He was released on police bail until 31 October.
“The road was closed while an investigation was carried out at the scene. Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed.
“Anyone with any relevant information or dash-cam footage which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police via our website or by calling 101 quoting log 241 of 21/09/2023. This could include relevant information or footage may be of the collision itself, or of involved vehicles prior to the collision.”
