A46 Evesham fatal crash: Motorcyclist killed crashing into lamppost

A man was killed in a motorcycle crash on the A46 near Evesham[1] on Wednesday evening (August 30). He died around 90 minutes after another fatal collision[2] on the A46, in Ashchurch near Tewkesbury, which also involved a motorcyclist.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it had been called to the crash scene at the junction of the A44 and A46 in Twyford, Evesham[3], at 5.41pm. It said a motorbike had crashed into a lamppost.

One ambulance, two paramedic officers, the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity[4] from Strensham and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance were sent to the scene. An off-duty firefighter also stopped at the scene and was providing medical assistance on the arrival of ambulance staff.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find one patient, a man, who was in a critical condition. Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

West Mercia Police said: “At around 5.50pm yesterday evening (August 30) we received reports of a single vehicle collision involving a Honda motorcycle on the A46 Evesham bypass. The bike was traveling southbound from the direction of Salford Priors towards the Twyford roundabout, when at one point the vehicle left the road and collided with a lamppost.

“The rider of the motorcycle, a 48-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”

The road was closed until around 2am for collision investigation work to continue. The closure was from the A44 The Squires (Evesham Country Park, Evesham) and B439 Station Road (Salford Priors roundabout, Salford Priors).

In the Ashchurch fatal incident, which happened at around 4pm near the MOD base at St Barbara’s Barracks, a man in his 20s from Tewkesbury died in a collision with a van. An air ambulance was also called to the scene but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
